John 5:1-8 ‘’ Some
time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for a feast of the Jews.
2 Now there is in
Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and
which is surrounded by five covered colonnades.
3 Here a great number
of disabled people used to lie — the blind, the lame, the paralyzed.
5 One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight
years.
6 When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had
been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, "Do you want to get
well?"
7 "Sir,"
the invalid replied, "I have no one to help me into the pool when the
water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of
me."
8 Then Jesus said to him, "Get up! Pick up your mat and
walk."
9 At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and
walked.’’

John 5:1-8
After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up
to Jerusalem.
2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool,
which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.
3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind,
halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool,
and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water
stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.
5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty
and eight years.
6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a
long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when
the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another
steppeth down before me.
8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. KJV
This a story of a man who was blind for 38years. He as been
living in that dilemma for good 38years of his life without no help. You might
be thinking why waiting? Is related to this man issue, so many of us have being
battling with one problem or the other for so long, but no help, so many of us
have being seeking for someone to get us out of such problem but no one is
ready to render his/her service to help you get out of such problem.
Jerusalem is a said to be a place of peace, but people still
face problem, people still live with sickness for so long. For good 38years the man has being living in
a zone of stagnancy. But one day, one fateful day, brought a change in this man
live, a day Jesus was passing. Jesus saw the man who had suffered for 38years
of his life, and Jesus ask this man ‘’DO YOU WANT TO GET WELL? Do you want to
get well is not a question for all, it’s a question of choice. The funny thing
Jesus did was to ask the man Do you want to get well? Jesus saw this man quite
well that is suffering from something, so why asking Do you want to get well,
what I came to understand, is that life is a choice, and that most people are
comfortable with the situation they find their lives in. I believe that is the
reason why Jesus just wanted to know if the man really want to get well.
One of the greatest disease of Christian is giving
unnecessary excuses, Jesus ask the man Do you want to get well? And the man was
given out excuses that are invalid, excuses that can’t bring divine healing to
him. The question now depend on you to answer, ‘’what kind of excuses are you
giving? How bad do you want to get well? How bad do you want to get out of such
situation?
In that same John5:7
which says ‘’The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the
water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another
steppeth down before me. The man was busy waiting for someone to carry him to
the pool, the man was waiting, because he was too comfortable with his comfort
zone. This how our case are, some of us are busy waiting for someone to help
us, all because we believe we can’t do it. How many times will you keep on
waiting for people, how many times will you keep on waiting for manners to come
down from heaven.
When will you prove to the world you can do it, rather than
depending on people. Why Jesus asked the man whether he needed to get well was
because Jesus expect the man to do something, he expect the man to stop giving
excuses. It doesn’t matter where you where born, or where you are, always learn
to impact your world your own way, stop complaining, stop looking at when the
grass is greener at the other sides. Instead of the man to look for a way to
get the healing, instead he was blaming others for his not getting healed. This
how our lives are, always blaming people for our inconveniency, always giving
out excuses for not getting your names on the score board of life. Why are you
still waiting? This not a question for all it a question of choice. We get so
relax, depending on people to help us get what we want, ‘’ How easy does easy
get? It left for you to start thinking, it now time for you to allow your voice
to be held, if the man was not able get to the pool to some certain reason, why
did he shout, why let other oppress you? Why allow others to take the
leadership of your life? Why are you so comfortable with your present
situation? Why? How bad do you want to get out of poverty? It left for you to
answer. Remember your life is very important to the world, so use it well.
