Having a postive attitude
It’s easy to become bogged down or feel trapped by life’s burdens and lose sight of thejoy you once found in simple things. When you hit a temporary low like this, keeping a positive attitude can prove difficult. You need something to spark a shift in your outlook and keep you motivated. Here are 10 ways to find inspiration that can help lift your spirit.
1) Know what inspires you
Think back to the times in your life when you felt the happiest and most inspired. What is the common element in those memories? Is that element missing now? If so, how can you bring it, or some facet of it, back into your life now?
2) Do a 180
Adversity often brings out something from inside a person she didn’t know was there – a new-found hope or drive to turn things around. If an unexpected hardship is what’s weighing you down, think about how you can turn it into something positive.
3) Step out of your comfort zone
Try doing something you never imagined you’d ever do. Enter a bike race, try yoga, go cliff diving. When you test your limits, you’ll find a part of yourself that you would never have seen otherwise.
4) Experience someone else’s reality
Read a memoir or a biography, or watch a biographical movie or documentary to see how inspirational figures rose to greatness. Find similarities between those people and yourself, and apply their life lessons to your own situation.
5) Start a blog
Sometimes we hit a low because we feel no one can hear us, just when we most need someone to listen. Share your thoughts, questions, worries and triumphs out there for all to hear by starting a blog. It’s free, it’s easy to start and maintain, and it’s surprising how quickly you can build an audience that can relate to you and offer you advice.
6) Grow something
Fewer things are more instantly satisfying and inspiring than nurturing a seed until it blooms into something worthy of a home in your yard. Start with a small potted flower, tree or herb garden somewhere that you’ll beable to see and appreciate it every day.
7) Get cooking
Food is incredibly comforting, especially during hard times. Here’s your chance to learn how to cook a new cuisine and try something new. Start with a simple recipe and work your way to something more challenging. Or buy a special pot, pan or kitchen appliance, and learn to make something new with it.
8) Volunteer
No matter your situation, there is always someone else who is even less fortunate. Use your time to help those who need it most – you’ll meet people with incredible stories and unbreakable spirits. And you’ll return home feeling truly uplifted.
9) Take a class
Learning how to do something new will not only inspire you, it could bring out a talent you never realized you possessed. Find a classthat interests you and put everything into it. You might just amaze yourself with the results.
10) Teach someone else
Take a friend up on that offer you made to teach her to knit, dance, scrapbook or whatever it is you do well. Not only will you become an inspiration to someone else, you may strike up a new friendship that could be very inspiring to you.
